Recommended Reading

Tuck Everlasting; Natalie Babbit

This is a heartwarming story about real friendship and some very hard decisions.

Recommened grades:  2-6

Animal Farm; George Orwell

A wonderful illustration of political power run amok, and a great book about the perils and dangers of Communism.  On the surface, it appears to be just a story about barnyard animals, but it’s really a political satire.  Short book, but requires thinking through.

Recommened grades 8-12

Winne-the-Pooh; A. A. Milne

A classic for children of all ages!  Winnie-the-Pooh always has some sort of problem, but with the help of friends, they are always solved.  Stories about friendship, love, and compassion.  An absolute must for all children.

Recommended grades:  pre-k – adult

The House at Pooh Corner; A. A. Milne

Another group of wonderful stories about Pooh Bear, Eeyore, Piglet, Rabbit, Owl, Kanga, Roo and Christopher Robin.  These stories are so touching and funny!  Everyone should get to know the friends in the Hundred Acre Wood.

Recommended grades:  pre-k – adult

The New Kid on the Block; Jack Prelutsky

A very humerous collection of poems about all things kid.  Two of my personal favories are Bleezer’s Ice Cream and Homework! Oh, Homework!  A great way to get kids reading and interested in poetry and keep them entertained the whole time.

Recommened grades:  K-5 (but this book can certainly be enjoyed by people of all ages)

This is a heartwarming book about a family in nineteenth century America, who moves to a new place and works to make a new life for themselves.  This has everything that is the American Spirit!  This is great for kids and adults of all ages, both boys and girls.

Recommended grades:  K-8 (Really good for everyone, though)
